The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has said that no decision has been taken on doing away with the class X CBSE board exam. He said such a decision will not be made in a hurry, without evaluating pros and cons of the process.

The PM made these comments while addressing schoolchildren on the occasion of Children’s Day: “We are still debating on this issue. This is an experiment. We should not take a decision in haste”.

This is in strong contrast to the announcements made in September, by HRD ministry, which favoured abolition of compulsory CBSE board exams for class X from next academic year (2010-11) and introduction of grading system from current year.

This should come as a respite to parents who think that CBSE board exams should continue as they prepare pupils for the competition they have to face after Class X.Similar Posts:

CBSE started this pioneering community work 12 years back in 1998 for the first time. The highlights of CBSE tele-counselling are:

(i) It is offered by trained counsellors and Principals from within CBSE affiliated schools.

(ii) It is a voluntary free of cost service provided by the participants.

There are 39 centres in India in the cities of Delhi, Noida, Chandigarh, Meerut, Jaipur, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Bhubneshwar, Vishakhapatnam, Jamnagar, Jabalpur, Coimbatore and for the first time from 6 new cities of Bhopal, Nagpur, Bangalore Guwahati, Baroda and Kollam in the state of Kerala. There are four helpline centres outside India at Kuwait, Dubai, Doha Qatar and Sharjah.

For the first time, CBSE has included Special Educators to take care of the specially abled children from centres located at Mumbai and Delhi.

For better accessibility and convenience of the students, the centres have been arranged state-wise and students are advised to call the numbers closer to their location specially while dialling the mobile numbers. The detailed list is enclosed for wider publicity.
